Hiawatha National Forest is collaborating with Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Michigan State University Extension to provide a Project Learning Tree educator workshop on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Participating educators that work with preschool to eight grade youth will engage in a full array of hands-on activities that exemplify inquiry-based learning and use the environment to engage children both outside and indoors.
This workshop is free of charge thanks to the generous support of America’s National Parks. It is open to both formal and non-formal educators including teachers, pre-service teachers, naturalists, scout and youth leaders, and anyone who routinely teaches preK-8 youth. Activities will run from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Education Shelter in Munising, MI at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. In the event of bad weather, the make-up date will be Saturday, March 14, 2020.
Educators participating in the workshop will receive Project Learning Tree’s PreK-8 Environmental Education Activity Guide (a $25 value), which is correlated to national and state standards and contains nearly 100 interdisciplinary lessons. K-8 teachers can earn 5 SCECH hours upon completion of the workshop.
Pre-registration is required, and registration is limited. To register, call the park’s education staff at (906) 387-2607, ext. 1206, or email piro_education@nps.gov before Monday, March 2, 2020.
