Sears Holding Corporation is closing eight Kmart stores in Michigan. The company filed for bankruptcy last October and says the decision was “difficult but necessary.”
This will leave just three Kmart stores in the state including Waterford Township and Warren in metro Detroit. The other location will be in Marshall near Battle Creek.
Kmart started in Michigan in 1962 with the first location in Garden City.
Included on the list: K-Mart’s last Upper Peninsula store. The store in Menominee will close by the end of the year, with liquidation sales starting later this month.
Two Kmart stores are also closing in Wisconsin, and stores are also being closed in Grayling and Midland in outstate Michigan.
