M-DOT crews continue working on the last bits and pieces of the US-2 Escanaba River Bridge project, which stretched into a third constriction season because of a labor dispute and uncooperative weather last year.
M-DOT spokesman Dan Weingarten tells the Radio Results Network that the plan is to have it completely open in time for the Fourth of July weekend.
“Right now, crews are working on removing the last access road that went down to the river,” Weingarten told RRN News. “And they’re making some changes to the Dam Road intersection to get that back to the way it was. They’re still working on some of the fencing along the nonmotorized pathway, and the bridge is going to be colored. They’re going to stain the concrete to finish it off.”
The cement barrier in the middle of the highway has been removed, but one lane is still closed in each direction while the final jobs are done on the $20.5 million project.
“It’s the end of a long process, longer than we had hoped it would be,” Weingarten said. “We’re just glad that everybody’s been patient to this point, and glad to be wrapping up.”
