LISTEN TO JACK HALL’S INTERVIEW WITH PHIL STROM
On Friday, June 14th, 2019 all inmates were transferred from the old Delta County Jail to the new Delta County Correctional Facility at 2800 College Avenue, Escanaba Michigan.
The transition of over 100 individuals took approximately 14 hours on June 14th and the transition team had no major issues during the move.
The Sheriff Road Patrol division and a segment of the Sheriff Administration team moved to the new facility in May 2019. The Corrections Department employees underwent several weeks of training in the new facility before the inmate population could be moved safely.
Philip Strom, Delta County Administrator, said that “Delta County is very lucky to have such a hard working and cohesive Sheriff’s Department. This transition has taken a great deal of planning and coordination to do right. The inmate population move is a major milestone to reaching the finish line on this project. We are very grateful for the public support of this project and the leadership and hard work from our Delta County Sheriff Department.”
During the first week of the transition, visitation for the inmate population has been suspended to allow for safe and secure operations and a coordinated effort to concentrate on safety and security. Visitation will resume later in the month of June and the Sheriff’s Department will provide a schedule for visitation.
