The Superior Health Foundation welcomed Dr. Bryan Dixon to its Board of Directors at its May meeting.
A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Dr. Dixon is a partner at Advanced Center for Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery in Marquette. He received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy at Montana State University before going on to his medical degree at Michigan State University and his family medicine residency at the former-Marquette General Health System. Following his residency, Dr. Dixon completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Notre Dame South Bend Sports Medicine Fellowship.
Dr. Dixon serves as a clinical associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine at MSU. He’s the former team physician and Medical Director for the United States Olympic Education Center, and a current assistant team physician for NMU. His active leadership positions include serving as board chair of the Upper Peninsula Health Education Corporation, and board member at AdvantagePoint Health Alliance – Great Lakes. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors.
“We are elated to have Dr. Dixon join our Board of Directors,” said Jim LaJoie, executive director of the Superior Health Foundation. “Dr. Dixon is well known throughout the region for his tireless dedication to his patients.”
“I’m excited to join the SHF board,” Dr. Dixon said. “Over the last several years, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with different aspects of the Foundation and I’ve been impressed by the values that drive the organization. Throughout the organization I have witnessed a passion for the mission, compassion for the people of the region and responsible stewardship of assets. I look forward to upholding these values and being a part of the team.”
In welcoming Dr. Dixon, the Superior Health Foundation offers a tearful goodbye to Dr. Mike Coyne. Dr. Coyne stepped down from the board following nearly 12 years of service. In that time, he resided as president for two years and played immeasurable roles on the Finance and Audit and Fund Development Committees.
“Dr. Coyne will be sorely missed,” LaJoie said. “He is a visionary and was instrumental in our conversion from the Marquette General Foundation to the Superior Health Foundation back in September 2012. We are incredibly indebted to his dedication and service. Thankfully, he has agreed to continue serving on one of our sub-committees.”
