Officials of the Dickinson County Racing Association (DCRA) have released Norway Speedway’s schedule for the 2019 season at the third-mile, paved oval located at the Dickinson County Fairgrounds in Norway, Michigan.
A total of 17 events are scheduled with things getting started Saturday, May 18 with the annual Island Resort Car Show in Harris from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST followed by a practice session at the track from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Weekly Friday night racing kicks off May 24 with the grandstand opening at 5 p.m. Time trials begin at 5:45 p.m. with the first green flag of the ’19 season flying at 7 p.m.
The Coca Cola late models will remain the track’s top weekly division, along with the Auto Value Super Stocks, 141 Auto Sportsman and the Stock Fours. The Sport Truck division, which has grown in numbers in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, will continue to compete on roughly an every-other-week basis.
Among the highlights on the season schedule will be the running of the 36th annual Stateline Challenge presented by Island Resort & Casino and Aurora Liquors. Last season a capacity crown saw NASCAR champion and Wisconsin native Johnny Sauter capture a thrilling 75 lap victory. Sauter has confirmed he will return to Norway this summer for the Stateline Challenge, with the ’18 late model car count of 30 for this event expected to rise significantly this year. The raindate for this event will be Saturday July 6.
Returning for yet another season will be the Auto Value Series events, which will be held on June 21st and July 19th, respectively.
The Roy Allard, Ed Hedlund & Jimmy Peterson Memorial night will feature fireworks on June 28. The kids nickel toss is scheduled for July 12 while the always popular Norway Speedway “Hall of Fame” night will take place July 26. The perennial crowd favorite Vintage Modifieds will be an added attraction on HOF night. The first ever “Modified Madness On The Border” is slated for Friday night, August 2. The event will pit the regular sportmod competitors from Escanaba’s Upper Peninsula International Raceway (UPIR) against the dirt track sport mod racers from the Northeastern Wisconsin ovals.
Fan appreciation night is set for August 9 while the Central Upper Peninsula Championship Series in conjunction with Sands Speedway in Marquette with the Series at Norway Friday August 16th and at Sands pm August 18th.
The traditional doubleheader weekend of racing taking place once again on Labor Day weekend during the Dickinson County Fair on Friday night, August 30 and Sunday, September 1, respectively.
The Impact Survival Series (ISS) Enduro Series will return on Saturday August 24. Spectator Eliminator races are slated for May 31, June 14, July 12, August 9 and August 30.
