Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) announced that CEO and Administrator, John Schon will retire effective December 31, 2018. Mr. Schon will transition to a consulting role as the hospital embarks on its organizational restructuring.
Venable LLP partner, Bart Stupak commented, “Mr. Schon has been leading this health system for the past 35 years and he has done many things to improve upon and grow this organization as well as increase the healthcare provided in this community. We are thankful for all of his efforts.”
Stupak continued, “We have recommended to the Hospital Board of Trustees the appointment of a Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) / Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO).”
Stupak concluded, “The goal is to protect and preserve DCHS and the healthcare services that it offers to the community.”
Given his extensive and unique experience and knowledge about Dickinson County Healthcare System’s operations over the last 35 years of service to the organization and community, Mr. Schon has agreed to serve in a consulting role to assist the CRO / CEO become acclimated to the healthcare system’s operations and its broader role as our area’s sole community hospital and largest employer.
Beginning January 1, 2019, Mr. Schon’s role within the organization will transition as part of a post retirement consulting agreement. Mr. Stupak stated, “I am glad to say that Mr. Schon has accepted an offer as a consultant to the CRO / Interim CEO. His many years of health care experience and his familiarity with the organization are necessary for a smooth transition and will be a great resource moving forward.”
