The traffic configuration has changed in the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) work zone on the I-75 Business Spur (BS) in Sault Ste. Marie. Mackinac Trail is now closed between Three Mile Road and the I-75 BS.
Northbound Mackinac Trail traffic is being detoured via Three Mile Road and M-129 (Ashmun Street). The route is reversed for southbound traffic. The closure will be in place until weather-dependent road work can be completed.
MDOT and the City of Sault Ste. Marie are investing $11.2 million to reconstruct 2.2 miles of roadway and construct a roundabout combining the intersections of Three Mile Road/Mackinac Trail and I-75 BS/Mackinac Trail in Sault Ste. Marie. The project is scheduled to be constructed in phases over two years. The project began in May and is expected to be completed in October 2019.
This project is expected to improve safety and traffic flow in this area.
