UP Health System — Marquette is pleased to announce Dr. Shawn Brown has joined the UPHS Emergency Medicine staff.
Recently, Dr. Brown served as a physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine for St. Luke’s Hospital, working clinically in the ED as well as serving as the physician liaison for emergency preparedness and mass casualty planning.
Dr. Brown is also familiar with the local area after earning her Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training with a minor in Emergency Medical Services at Northern Michigan University. She would later receive her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School.
“I’m excited to move back to the UP and be involved with a Level 2 Trauma Center that serves a big portion of the UP,” Dr. Brown said. “The people here are really welcoming. I’m happy to be back in a small-town environment and to just be out in nature.”
With her dad working as a firefighter paramedic, as a child, there were plenty of emergency stories for Dr. Brown to hear. These piqued her interest into pursuing a career in emergency medicine.
“Emergency medicine is the same thing everywhere, and it’s nice to be able to be in an area where people appreciate it,” Dr. Brown said. “I’m happy to be there for people who are my neighbors.”
