The I-75 Business Spur (BS) in Sault Ste. Marie will be closed between Mackinac Trail and M-129 (Ashmun Street) Wednesday for sanitary sewer work. A signed detour will be in place.
The closure will begin at 4 a.m. Wednesday and is expected to be completed by 3 p.m. the same day.
The work is part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) reconstruction and roundabout project. MDOT and the City of Sault Ste. Marie are investing $11.2 million to reconstruct 2.2 miles of roadway and construct a roundabout combining the intersections of 3 Mile Road/Mackinac Trail and I-75 BS/Mackinac Trail in Sault Ste. Marie. The project includes modernizing two traffic signal locations. As part of the project, the city will also construct sidewalks. The project is scheduled to be constructed in phases over two years. The project began on May 29, 2018, and is expected to be completed in October 2019.
This project is expected to improve safety and traffic flow in this area.
