Bark River’s Tom Lindquist grabbed the lead on lap nine and survived a stiff challenge from Gregg Haese from Francis Creek in the final laps to win the Coca Cola super late model feature at Norway Speedway Friday night.
The victory was Lindquist’s second of the season as he won on opening night. The race was slowed by a pair of caution periods. Haese settled for runnerup money. Escanaba’s Robby Iverson, points leader Dillion Kralovetz and hometown driver Cameron Clifford finished third through fifth, respectively.
Norway’s Andy Gerwig chalked up his second Auto Value super stock feature of the season. Marinette’s Kevin Peterson mounted a late race charge, closing the gap on Gerwig but was able to muster up a second place finish in his best performance of the year. Iron Mountain’s Dave Fraser, Kingsford’s Savanna Novara and Jim Stachowich, guest driving Ryan Wender’s car, rounded out the top five finishers.
141 Auto sportsman points leader Joe Ostermann scored his fifth feature flag of the season. The two time champion most certainly earned the victory, and he used the outside line to chase down race long leader Jordan Masicotte of Norway. Ostermann nipped Masicotte at the line, as Masicotte scored her second runnerup finish in as many weeks. Jeff Schetter, Pete Fraser and Kaitlyn Schettler placed third through fifth, respectively.
Cody Skog of Vulcan won the stock four feature. The race provided some drama as second place points runner Jake Dolfurd, who was threading his way through the field at a torrid pace, slid off the third-mile, paved oval and wound up on the old half-mile, dirt horse track.
The entire four division program, complete with spectator eliminator races, wrapped up promptly at 9:22 p.m.
Coca Cola late models were the only division to qualify tonight as the other divisions were lined up by a point average invert.
Next Friday night August 17 will be Wendrick’s Truss Race For a Cure night. This event will also serve as the makeup date for the Auto Value Challenge Series which was rained out earlier this year. 0The sport trucks will be in action. The raindate for this event will be Saturday August 18.
Racing gets underway at 7 p.m.
