Strings on the Bay concludes this Tuesday, August 7th, at 7:30 PM at the Besse Center Theater.
This final program of the summer features the “True North Quartet,” a string quartet group from the Ann Arbor area, playing a program entitled “Razzle-Dazzle.” Violinists Paul Lundin, violist Joseph Deller and cellist Daniel Thomas return for their ninth year playing together for Manistique audiences. Violinist David Lamse joins them this year as their newest member.
The “dazzling” mezzo-soprano and oboist Kaycee Ware Thomas will join the group this summer to show off her diverse musical talent and skill. She will perform Ottorino Respighi’s “The Sunset” with the quartet and then join in for the ever favorite “Quartet in F” for oboe and strings by Mozart.
As an oboist, Ms. Ware earned an MM degree from the University of Michigan and was then selected as an Artist Certificate candidate at Southern Methodist University. Ms. Ware has held positions with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra (Assistant Principal Oboe / English Horn) from 2006-07 and the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra (Second Oboe) from 2007-09. Ms. Ware was also selected as the only American oboist to compete in the 2008 Prague Spring International Oboe Competition.
As a mezzo-soprano, Ms. Ware has held apprenticeships at the Seagle Music Colony, Amarillo Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, the MasterWorks Festival, and Light Opera of Oklahoma. Notable roles include Mary O’Fallin in the world premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon’sMorning Star, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, and Dorabella in Così fan tutte.
Ludwig Beethoven’s quartets are the pinnacle of chamber music. His three quartets dedicated to Count Andreas Razumovsky are among his best. “True North Quartet” will present the third of these great works, the C Major quartet, to finish the season in style.
Tickets for this performance are available on the Bay College website and at the box office of the Besse Center during business hours or immediately prior to the concert. The admission price is $5 for students and faculty and $10 for adults. A reception follows the concert.
