The problem was caused by a tugboat anchor – that’s the word from Consumers Energy regarding the $1 million in damages sustained in April when two underwater power lines were severed in the Straits of Mackinac.
Consumers now joins Enbridge, the state of Michigan and other power line owners in a lawsuit against the Escanaba-based VanEnkevort Tug and Barge, who they claim caused the damage. Consumers says the area is a well known “no anchor zone.”
