On July 9, 2018 detectives assigned to the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted a joint investigation that led to the execution of two search warrants in Marquette County. The first search warrant occurred at a residence in Sands Township and the second residence was located in Ishpeming Township.
During the search warrants detectives seized approximately eight ounces of crystal meth, and twenty grams of heroin as well as other illicit drugs. The street value of the drugs seized is estimated to be over $25,000. The suspect, a 33 year old Ishpeming Township man, was arrested in Sands Township without incident and lodged at the Marquette County Jail on felony charges related to the distribution of crystal meth and heroin. The name of the suspect is not being released at this time. This investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
UPSET and HSI were assisted by the U.S. Postal Inspector Service, Marquette City Police K-9 Unit “Scud”, Michigan State Police Hometown Security Team, Ishpeming Township Police, Ishpeming City Police, and Forsyth Township Police.
