Gwinn Area Community Schools Board of Education is moving forward in stabilizing the school district and addressing school budget reduction needs.
The Board moved to replace retiring superintendent Tom Jayne with the current Middle School/High School principal Sandra Petrovich at a special Board of Education meeting held on Tuesday evening.
Mr. Jayne will be staying on with the district through February to assist with the transition process. Additionally, the district has completed the 2016-2017 financial report and a completed audit has been submitted to the state.
The district will now move forward with hiring a new business manager, developing and adopting the finalized budget for 2017-2018 and developing a 5 year phased plan to eliminate budget shortfalls and establish a financially stable district.
A statement from Gwinn Area Community Schools Board of Education reads, “We would like to thank our community, the staff, teachers and administrators, MARESA, the finance team and our auditors for sharing their expertise and extending time and patience as we move through this process.”
The next regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting will be held in the Gwinn High School Library on December 18, at 6:30 p.m.
