The Alger Correctional Facility inmate accused of killing his cellmate in July has been arraigned.
Local Three News reports that 23-year-old DeShawn Madden is charged with first-degree murder in the July 20 death of 23-year-old Rodriguez Montez Burks. Prison officials confirmed Burks was killed inside the cell, however, the cause of death has not been released. A spokesman with the Michigan Department of Corrections says the Burks was found dead around 2 p.m.that afternoon.
DeShawn Madden was placed in isolation after the incident.
Madden was sentenced in 2015 to 16 to 30 years on three felony counts from 2014 in Wayne County involving Car Jacking, Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, and Armed Robbery. He’s due in court for a preliminary exam September 29.
