Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) announced Tuesday that it plans to close the Boney Falls Dam No. 4 reservoir boat launch facility on September 15th, 18th, 19th and 20th between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The closures are required to demobilize equipment that was used to complete construction work at the Boney Falls Dam. Access to the campground near the dam will be available; however, access may be delayed at times.
“UPPCO is asking people to avoid using the boat launch near Boney Falls Dam No. 4 during the days we’ve announced,” said Josh Ball, UPPCO Generation Supervisor. “Public safety is our number one priority! We are asking people to use the Dam No. 3 boat launch if they plan to launch watercraft.”
Construction crews will be working to disassemble a barge and stage equipment before demobilizing from the site.
“The boat launch and surrounding area will be busy with trucks and heavy equipment,” said Ball. “UPPCO greatly appreciates everyone’s patience while the crews disassemble and remove the equipment that was needed to complete the project.”
The public is reminded to be safe and follow all warning signs whenever recreating near UPPCO’s hydroelectric facilities.
