Troopers from the MSP-Negaunee Post were dispatched to a two car crash on M553 near the County Road 480 intersection known as the Crossroads.
The crash occurred at 3:00 P.M. when Duane Ruska (64) of Sands Township failed to yield the right of way when entering onto M553 from the North side of the Crossroads Mini Mart.
Ruska was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he attempted a left hand turn to go North on M553 and drove out in front of Mary Albarello-Burbey (55) of Sands Township. Burby was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan traveling South on M553 approaching the Crossroads intersection when the crash occurred.
Ruska and Albarello-Burbey were both wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Albarello-Burbey was transported to UP Health Systems Marquette for treatment of the injuries she received as a result of the crash.
Ruska was determined to be the at fault driver and was cited for “failing to yield the right of way” and “operating with an expired driver’s license”. Assisting at the scene were Chocolay Township Police, Sands Township First Responders,and UP Health Systems Marquette.
