Upper Peninsula State Senator Tom Casperson says now is the time for the U-S Forest Service to make a deal with a Schoolcraft County man over a land dispute in the Hiawatha National Forest.
Casperson (R-Escanaba) says that a federal judge ruled in favor of Roy Hinkson, dismissing all tickets that had been issued against him by the Forest Service. The judge had ruled on the first ticket earlier this month, but took more time to decide on the second citation. Hinkson…a Vietnam War veteran…has a camp that borders forest land, and that camp was technically partially built on federal property.
Casperson has waged a public campaign on Hinkson’s behalf, and is again calling on the Forest Service to either swap land with Hinkson, or sell him a small piece of land to settle the issue.
