Blog: High School Basketball Players Excel In Classroom

Hope everything is going good back home as I relax (kind of) on vacation.

Want to congratulate the Gladstone Braves, Marquette Redmen, and North Central Jets boys basketball teams for all being in the Top Ten in the state in their respective classes…when it comes to grades.

The Basketball Association of Michigan announced its Top Ten lists this morning…and in Class A, Marquette had a 3.615 team Grade Point Average, good for third best in the state. In Class B, Gladstone had a team GPA of 3.548, good for seventh in the state. And in Class D, the state champion North Central Jets had a team GPA of 3.518, good for seventh in the state. What excellent accomplishments!

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these three teams did so well in the classroom, and ALSO did this well on the court. Marquette went 20-2 this season, Gladstone went to the regional final, and the Jets, of course, won it all. It takes more intelligence than many of us realize to play a varsity team sport at such a high level.

Congrats to all of those kids, their teachers and coaches, and their parents.
